When religious education combines knowledge and dialogue it contemplates an image of others carrying social, cultural and political implications. This model of religious education can lift the vision of the learner to horizons that go beyond the self and make them acknowledge that difference need not be a threat. In a climate where religion and "otherness" frequently lead to extremism and violence, religious education can try to unfold an alternative narrative.
