Description (300 words max.):  

Even if moral education is one of the most urgent educational emergences of our time at an existential, cultural, social and political level, Italian School does not provide specific educational actions within academic curricula and teachers are not equipped with the professional competences useful to teach for moral education. Moreover, pedagogical studies at a national and international level have not produced broad and focused works on this issue. 

The research will be focused on the issue of moral education in junior high school which will be explored through an interdisciplinary approach both at a theoretical as well as an empirical level. 

The final deliverables expected as result of the CME research project are: 

1) a project of moral education for junior high school students; 

2) a project of professional development for junior high school teachers aimed at improving their awareness and competences in order to the moral education strategies. 

Both projects are aimed at providing a rational and scientific support to the moral education interventions addressed to adolescents living in the globalized societies. 

These projects will be articulated in Work Packages, each of which will involve all participants and will be coordinated by a research unit. 

At a theoretical level the research will be developed in order to explore the national and international framework regarding moral education, at an empirical level the research will be focused on the exploration of the educational needs and the professional development requests regarding moral education involved a representative sample of students and teachers in the territorial areas of reference of each unit.
